CURRENT Athens is an online platform for the non-hierarchical promotion of contemporary art.
K-Gold Temporary Gallery presents its first event in Athens, with the screening of "Glow In The Dark", a film by Stefanos Tsivopoulos at the Athens Museum of Queer Arts, which is part of "Perfectly Blue", a research project curated by Christos Mouchas.
The film, which is screened for the first time in Athens, follows the story of Rakeem, a 25-year-old African American who performs in drag shows. Having grown up in group and foster homes and working several jobs to survive, we listen to the young man speaking about his life and dreams. The tender film investigates the ways in which race, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic inequalities play a major role in defining and expressing oneself beyond stereotypes and categorizations.
The screening is the first part of the project "Perfectly Blue", which continues with the online residency of three more international artists. Louis Fratino, Pacifico Silano and Justin Corriveau address issues of identity and sexuality with new works for K-Gold Temporary Gallery's Instagram account (@kgoldtemporarygallery), from 18/06/2018.
