Imaginary wandering / to discover a new world
T.A.F. / The Art Foundation happily hosts the group exhibition ‘Uncharted’, opening on Friday, 9 June at 20.30 and running until Sunday, 25 June 2017. The exhibition is presented in the framework of the thematic program Athens Photo Festival 2017 entitled ‘STILL SEARCHING’.
In the age of digital technology, remote imaging and the diffusion of imaging and recording technologies, the question raised in every part of the world is whether it is possible to find a place that can be described as unexplored or uncharted.
The photographic works featured in the exhibition ‘Uncharted’ have emerged through the Athens Photo Festival Open Call and attempt to respond in different ways to the potential existence of an “uncharted land” in today’s world.
Departing from a subjective observation and the imaginary wandering to discover a new world, even in territories that seem familiar at first sight, we move through new imaging ways to the re-mapping of the theoretically known world and, in effect, to a new discovery.
Is there a possibility to essentially explore or objectively map a territory or a place through photography? Or do we always end up with clearly subjective documentations?
