Cuban film scholar Gilberto Perez defines cinema as a middle ground between actual presences –technical, physical presences- and a kind of immaterial region, an enacted limbo, where images have been weaved together following a form. A tapestry of light. But also a cemetery, a museum, a catalog. The indistinctiveness of the outer stages –meaning the places where the film is registered, always a documentary register-, from the inner space –our uniqueness, according to Max Stirner- conform the kingdom of the material ghost. Our films explore the cinema of the real, its form, not reality. Here reality is always regarded as an untranslatable entity. We become translators or witnesses of this fracture: Limbo, Traces of the Inscribed, Ahasverus, The Son of the Dream and Amundsen’s Dogs showcase several attempts, or drafts, or models dealing with the material ghost.
