Disjointedness is a key attribute of the narration
Of the experience itself
Fullness is essentially unattainable, thankfully…
A continuous sound is not music
The meaning is formed in the gaps of the description.
Assemblage here takes place as resonance, and the meaning of each image. Develops as relation, as reflection.
At Tsimandria, Lemnos I learned to swim and ride a bike
I fell in love for the first time, and then a second and a third one…
Girls first, then yellow and blue and then live music.
I still remember certain flights to and from the island
Initially from Ellinikon, where the adventure always started, June 15
As the aircraft door opened my nostrils were filled by this fragrance of the island
Then the metallic sound of the stairs, Demosthenes’ taxi and finally the smell of the house
And the postman’s horn.
As for New York, the most typical, persistent smell in my memory, from my first days there, is that of freshly laundered clothes that comes at an industrial scale from the laundries in the buildings’ basements.
The bicycle came useful in New York, I become one with the pulse of the city
But not always; at times its hedonism gets on my nerves
Recently it surprised me in a way I never expected. Passenger on a train.
I’ve learnt to live with my ignorance of what is necessary and possible
I adapted to myself and to circumstances.
And circumstances took me to Shanghai
Now, Shanghai in a way travelled me back to Lemnos
Where it all started, with photography
And airplane journeys.
