The ATHENS PRINTMAKING ART CENTER-PANDOLFINI & SIATERLI C.N.P.P. invites you to the printmaking exhibition “etching or otherwise: PRINTMAKING STATEMENTS III – 4 FINE ART SCHOOLS” with the works of professors and students of the Printmaking Studio of the Printmaking Studios of the School of Visual and Applied Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts of AUTh (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) at ETCH INK art space from 16th April until 21st May 2022.
The exhibition is the third part of a series of exhibitions of the grand printmaking event «PRINTMAKING STATEMENTS - 4 FINE ART SCHOOLS» dedicated to the visual and educational activity of all state-wide Fine Art School Printmaking Studios, which will be presented stepwise by the ATHENS PRINTMAKING ART CENTER -PANDOLFINI & SIATERLI C.N.P.P. at its base, at ETCH INK art space in Athens.
Manolis Υiannadakis, Professor of the Printmaking Studio of AUTh notes: “Our intention is to provide a testimony of the ongoing artistic activity and creativity that continues to flourish at a time of difficult and often discouraging conditions.” We aim to demonstrate that the rich language of Printmaking can be encouraging for its creative capacity and continuity. Xenis Sachinis, Director and Professor of the Printmaking Studio of AUTh, quotes Odusseus Elytis’ poem “Child with the Skinned Knee” reflecting on the nature and practice of Printmaking: “The skinned knee resembles the plate which has been engraved and inked, and the bloodstained tissue the printed paper where the mark is imprinted inversely. According to Ioannis Belimpasakis, Assistant Professor of the Printmaking Studio of the AUTh "A School of Fine Arts that can focus today on a subject such as printmaking, with so much vigor and dedication, while simultaneously meeting the complex stakes of contemporary art as well, proves an open and flexible stance towards the limitless potentialities of in-depth artistic research”
The organizing of this series of exhibitions “PRINTMAKING STATEMENTS - 4 FINE ART SCHOOLS”, intends to present to the general public, the directions that today’s Greek Fine Art printmaking studios follow, the character and distinctiveness that defines each one of them. With the completion of these exhibition presentations, ATHENS PRINTMAKING ART CENTER aims in documenting the many-sided and interesting visual activity of studios, teachers and their students. It also aims in offering a chance to experts and the public, to trace parallels, differences, artistic trends and the dynamic of young artists in the field of Printmaking.
