T.A.F./ the art foundation presents the group exhibition Under the same sky by the art group FireArt art collective, which inaugurates in its exhibition space on Thursday 04 January 2024. It is a collaboration of 75 artists from countries of the wider region and has the theme of war and the solidarity of nations.
The exhibition began its journey in July 2022 with works by Greek and Turkish artists and titled "Under the same sky, around the same sea". It was presented at the Nazim Hikmet Cultural Centre in Istanbul and then travelled to Thessaloniki (Islahane Cultural Centre), Komotini (Municipal Gallery), Florina (Evxinos Club) and the European Parliament in Brussels. Through their works, the artists tried to stimulate the public on the root causes of the war, to highlight the consequences, to show that the people of the two neighbouring countries suffer from the same causes and to invite the public to decide what should be done.
Subsequently, the situation in the wider Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans made it imperative to broaden cooperation. Today the nations of the region are experiencing the effects of war in the economic sphere, facing energy poverty and impoverishment. On the other hand, nationalist tendencies are being fomented so that the populations can more readily accept the possibility of war spreading, and in the meantime, tolerate exploitation. Thus, the artistic group FireArt decided to highlight what unites people. The common bitterness and common suffering, the dreams of a better future through the solidarity and struggles of people.
Artists from Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Serbia, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Italy, the Czech Republic and Mexico responded to the call and joined the collective exhibition of Greeks and Turks. The exhibition was presented at the Christo Chokev Gallery in Gabrovo, continued its journey at the Bitola Cultural and Information Centre in North Macedonia and is reaching its last stop at the T.A.F. in Athens, where it will be closed in a festive ceremony.
The opening will take place on Thursday 4 January at 19.00 with the presentation of the interactive performance "The Box", which deals with the dead ends of modern man.
