Space52 welcomes the solo exhibition of the Italian artist Alberto Maggini, entitled “ADORE the waste of our adornments”, under the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture. Maggini presents the culmination of his study of classical aesthetic disciplines, which led him to produce contemporary artworks that wish to raise concerns around the rethinking of queer bodies in an inclusive ecosystem, following the models of global sustainability.
More specifically, starting his research from the ornamental motifs of Mycenaean burial masks in the collection of the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, he was led to the construction of new archetypal forms from “waste” materials and beauty products collected from the flea market of Eleonas. The artist poignantly remarks on the uncertainty of all goods, using in his work objects mainly related to the beauty industry, wishing to raise discourses around the term “waste” on a social level that does not belong to the heteronormative norms.
