CURRENT Athens is an online platform for the non-hierarchical promotion of contemporary art.
With a start in February 2015 and after a year of investigation over political and humanitarian questions connected to the migration crisis, ten youngsters aged 17-25 entered the refugee camp of Calais in north France, the so-called “The Jungle” in mediatic and political speeches because of its living conditions. The group interacted with migrants, recorded their testimonies and worked alongside local associations, with the support of the Salam Association and the photojournalist Dragan Lekic.
Lead by a strong desire to investigate deeper the issue, the group travelled to Greece, the doorway to Europe for thousands of migrants from the Middle-East and interviewed migrants and local volunteers to search of connection to the reality.
This exhibition is a retrospective of the different trips in the camps of the North of France.
