The exhibition HOMO ANIMALIS invites visitors to engage in a thought-provoking dialogue concerning the complex relationship between humans and animals. At the heart of the exhibition are the works of students from the 6th Painting Workshop of the Athens School of Fine Arts, which interact with the oeuvre of the renowned Greek sculptor Yannis Pappas, a part of the Museum's permanent collection.
Through his prolific body of work, which includes numerous drawings and monumental sculptures, Yannis Pappas explores the profound and enigmatic relationship between humans and animals, with particular emphasis on the iconic Mounted Figure. This figure symbolizes the interconnection between these two entities in a shared world, both physical and metaphorical.
The theme is further expanded and developed by ASFA students through their artistic creations, offering fresh interpretations and visual expressions that delve into the intricate Human/Animal complex. The exhibition presents works that foster a dialogue with Pappas’s artistic oeuvre, allowing visitors to explore different approaches and engage with contemporary issues arising from this multifaceted subject.
The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the interaction between humans and animals through art and to recognize the deeper symbolic and existential connections that shape the image of the animal in human consciousness.
