One Work Show Series presents the work of artist Theo Prodromidis in Port Proxy, an act captured at a port, a gaze turned toward the sea. This series reflects both the experience of shared time and the temporal rhythm required for a wave to traverse the Eastern Mediterranean. The term portrait by proxy, coined by curator Christian Oxenius, refers to a self-reflexive portrait—or a self-portrait by proxy—which lies at the heart of this exhibition. Here, the portrait takes shape as a moment of action, situated within the commercial operation of the port of Piraeus and the network of relationships surrounding that historical moment. Prodromidis’ work proposes a way of highlighting singular identities within the imaginary of cities in and around the Mediterranean. It also explores how understanding the convergence of these singularities emerges from the perspective of shared action. At the same time, it examines the continuous transformations that shape these spaces as palimpsests of memory, experience and negotiation.
