The exhibition "CRUSH" presents a new works by artist Bety Krňanská, developed in dialogue with David Cronenberg's 1996 film Crash. Through this reference, the exhibition examines contemporary forms of seduction, affection, collision, and transformation, situating them within the evolving relationship between human bodies and technology.
Krňanská's paintings and installations bring together fragmented female forms and elements of car design. Initially composed through AI-generated imagery, these scenes are subsequently translated into the artist's characteristic material language, combining painting, sublimation dye, patchwork and beeswax. This combination of machine produced compositions to hand-made surfaces highlights the tension between digital aesthetics and traditional craft.
Within "CRUSH", the historically gendered narrative of the woman positioned alongside the car is reconsidered. Rather than reproducing the conventions of the male gaze, Krňanská places emphasis on agency, reciprocity, and intimacy. The female protagonists are not depicted as objects for visual consumption; instead, they engage with the machine as an autonomous subject of affection and encounter.
