All humans find comfort, identity and meaning from objects and spaces throughout their existence. They become an extension of our inner self. We don't often acknowledge this consciously, often these attachments are made from something more intangible within us. Despite the visceral nature of our choices in where we stay and what we keep, there is still distinct intention. Maybe you like the way they look or feel, or they are associated with a place or time, a person, colour, texture or smell you love and want to hold onto.
Feeling the Space explores this concept through my archiving of three months in a country I have a fragmented attachment to. It is a washing line of thoughts and feelings, a gathering of objects and spaces that have affected me. This work becomes my own collection of souvenirs as I slowly explore my heritage and my connection to a country I have never been able to fully know, but which is half of who I am. I draw on childhood visuals that evoke nostalgia, alongside everyday routines that have woven themselves into the identity I've adapted in this new space.
