Born to an Egyptian father and a Polish mother, Jasmina Metwaly is a Cairo-Berlin-based artist and filmmaker, and founding member of Mosireen collective. She works in video and film, and has recently started drawing again. Rooted in performance and theater, her film and video work is focused on process-based practices that have a social function generating tension between participants and audiences. Metwaly’s work has been exhibited at international art venues and festivals. Recent films include We Are Not Worried in the Least, 2018; From Behind of the Monument, 2013; and Out on the Street, 2015 which she directed together with Philip Rizk.
